SSGOC Demands the Village Bar Mesaros and Haney from the Planning and Zoning Commission Public Hearing on March 3, 2021

HOMEWOOD, Ill. – March 2, 2021 —South Suburbs for Greenspace Over Concrete (SSGOC) asks that Mayor Hofeld, Village Trustees, and Village Manager Jim Marino bar Angela Mesaros, economic development director, and Napoleon Haney, assistant village manager, from the Planning and Zoning Commission’s fourth public hearing on the rezoning of the property formerly known as Calumet Country Club. This demand comes almost a week after Haney offered to use police officers to intimidate public questions and comment and Mesaros joked about violence and called members of the opposition to the rezoning application “assholes”before the third session of this hearing process.

Elected officials in Homewood have given no statement, and in a Facebook post from February 25, 2021 the village said that it is “currently investigating the matter.” SSGOC believes that both Mesaros and Haney should be fired immediately, but if there is an actual investigation ongoing, then Mesaros and Haney should be barred from attending the hearing they sought to disrupt with police intimidation and violence. The village should provide other parties to administer this hearing and speak on behalf of the village.

These statements have rightfully intimidated the public, and the public hearing cannot be fair if Angela Mesaros and Napoleon Haney are present.

The hearing is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on March 3, 2021, at Homewood Village Hall, 2020 Chestnut.
